A little bit about Drumline: Mullen is a school with pride, it is excellent in almost everything it does. However, this pride in the music department has been lost in the past years. We are trying to change that, the drumline was a huge success last year and this year we plan on continuing forward.
The drumline’s first goal will be growth in character and musicianship among it’s members. Drumline is first and foremost a family where students give their best effort to grow as people and as musicians. It is an entity that is unlike anything else at Mullen. It will consist of hard work, but great joy. We will do things to grow as a family such as a weekend camp at YMCA of the Rockies, pre-performance meals, and a Christmas party with a gift exchange in December. We are planning on a service trip to perhaps the Denver Rescue mission to serve or play at a special olympics basketball game. We want students on the Drumline to love the drumline and show that love through their musicianship.
Drumline will take any great musician to a level they did not before believe possible. With drumming it will come naturally to improve on musical elements such as rhythm reading and sight reading, balance, blend, tempo, intonation, dynamics, and expression. The work ethic of any drumline is far greater than the typical band member and because of that they grow in musicianship.
Our second goal will be to display pride in Mullen High School. We will be the sound of the school and will play at various events in the fall such as football games, sporting events and pep rallies. Last year we were in high demand for multiple teams and events. The schedule below is what is planned right now, but it would not surprise me if I receive an email the night before an event asking us to play. In these cases we will discuss together as a drumline what is best for our program and school. Once the school sees the drumline it will continually be called upon to bring Mullen spirit at any event. I encourage anyone who wants to grow in their musicianship, and display pride for our school to join Drumline this coming Summer.
