March 20, 2015 - The Mullen Mustangs (1-2) lost their second two goal game on the San Diego Spring Break trip to Canyon Crest Academy (4-0) by a score of 12-10. Mullen looked refreshed after a couple days at the beach and jumped to a quick 3-0 lead on the turf field of this 1,900 person San Dieguito District high school that is currently ranked #3 in the CA-San Diego Section by LaxPower. The Ravens responded but never led the game until the last three minutes of the first half when they reeled off three straight goals to take a 6-5 lead into the break. The Ravens continued their run early in the second half powered by draw control and dominance when the ball hit the ground. Mullen made a nice run midway thru the second half with a stretch of winning draws, but could never get closer than two goals. Once again, Mullen did not make a team pay for three yellow cards as they were held scoreless by the Ravens in these situations. This defensive effort was aided by a peculiar “San Diego County” only rule that all games are running clocks (even after goals) and penalties flew by. In the end, the Ravens won with a significant edge in ground balls and fewer turnovers than the Mustangs. Following the game, the Canyon Crest Academy parents hosted a great picnic at Powerhouse Park on Del Mar Beach that was a great ending to the Spring Break Trip. The Ravens are coached by former Cherry Creek HS player Rebecca Kingsbury who we would like to thank for her hospitality!

The Mustangs will travel home to Denver and get back on their opening seven away game start to the 2015 season with a non-conference game against Thompson Valley on Tuesday (3/24/15).
