March 24, 2015 - The Mullen Mustangs (2-2) headed an hour north (yes north girls) of Denver to Loveland to take on the Thompson Valley Eagles (1-4). The Eagles are a co-op team of some 11 high schools in Northern Colorado which started play in 2009 and based on the turnout seems to be enjoying some great support in the community.
The Mustangs opened the game quickly building a 3-0 lead after 5 minutes of good ball possession and shooting. The Eagles responded well - much to the delight of the 75 people in the stands - with a two goal run to cut the margin to one with seven minutes gone in the game. The Mustangs went on to build an 11-4 lead at halftime based on dominance in the draw, time of possession and ground balls. The second half was more of the same, with the Mustang defense holding the Eagles to two goals in the final 43 minutes of the game while getting balanced scoring.
The Mullen JV team beat the Eagle JV team by a score of 12 to 6. The Mustangs will continue what seems to be a never ending seven game road stretch when they travel to an improved Eaglecrest (3-2) to open their Centennial League play on Friday (3/27/15).
