Congratulations to everyone for making it through the second Trimester!
For tryouts I wanted to send out some information so players and parents understand the coaches approach to tryouts and know the schedule for the week.
First, all players are going to be evaluated by the entire coaching staff the whole week. Players will play with their classmates initially and then start to be split by skill as the week goes on. We will use tryouts to start implementing offensive and defensive strategies to be used in the scrimmages on Saturday. We will use the scrimmages to evaluate players as well. Final teams will be sent out through email on Sunday March 1st.
Players will be evaluated on character, coach-ability, skill, IQ, and athleticism. Again, all coaches will be evaluating all players.
Due to weather the schedule for next week is as follows:
Monday - 5:00 - 6:30 PM - Green Room - Mullen
Tuesday - 3:30 - 5:00 PM - Green Room - Mullen
Wednesday - Friday - 3:30 - 5:30 PM - Fields at Mullen (until you hear otherwise)
For Monday and Tuesday, if you would like to tryout for Varsity it is REQUIRED that you be in attendance. However, I encourage ALL players to attend Monday and Tuesday even if you are not planning to tryout for Varsity. In the coaching staff’s mind, there is no reason why you should not be attending tryouts these days. You are only taking away repetitions and learning opportunities from yourselves.
Starting Wednesday, practice is REQUIRED for ALL players. From that day forward, if a player has three day’s of no call no shows - meaning a player does not show up for a practice or game without contacting a coach directly - they will be dismissed from the program. We take responsibility and commitment seriously and believe that is reflected in setting proper expectations on attendance and holding players accountable accordingly.
Players will have the opportunity to play for the Level 3, Junior Varsity, or Varsity team. We will target 32 players on the Varsity team and approximately 20-25 players each on Level 3 and Junior Varsity. Players will not swing between teams once the season begins. We have approximately 75 - 80 players trying out for the program!!! Our staff could not be more excited for these numbers.
