Weekly Update (3/2)
Mullen Lacrosse Parents,
Thank you to all players and families this past week being patient and flexible for tryout locations and times. With limited options our staff feels we made the best of our facilities. Not every school is fortunate to have a Green Room on campus and we are making the most of it.
Here is the schedule for the week for all levels, assuming the fields remain covered in snow:
Monday - 3:30 - 5:00 - Mullen Green Room - Program Dinner to follow
Tuesday - TBD
Wednesday - 6:30 - 8:00 - Mullen Green Room
Thursday - 5:00 - 6:30 - Mullen Green Room
Friday - 3:30 - 5:00 - Mullen Green Room
Next, over this past week the coaching staff has been evaluating and watching every player in our program to put together three great teams. The players all competed and pushed each other which have made our decisions difficult. Congratulations to all of them. They are building a great culture and foundation to grow upon, and should be proud of themselves.
Coach Shewchuk said it best on Saturday to the players - “whatever team you end up on, embrace your role and the challenge presented to you.” All of us as coaches can relate to what the players are going through right now. If any player has any questions on their evaluation which led to their team placement I will discuss it with them directly and in person. All they have to do is ask me. As they grow into young men, it is important that they take ownership of their own actions and sports allow them to do so.
This is by far the most difficult part of our jobs. Based on our evaluations we put together what we believe are the best teams for the program.
I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow and to a great spring season!
Sincerely,
Coach Bobzien
Season Kick Off Meeting, 3/2/15
Mullen Lacrosse Community,
Saturday Plan of Practice
Practice Update due to Weather
Tryouts for Thursday, 2-26, are CANCELLED due to school being cancelled. Enjoy the snow day.
For Friday, we will be back in the Green Room from 5:00 - 6:30 for tryouts.
Regarding the scrimmage this weekend I will send out information when I know more. The coaches of the four high school’s participating are currently working on a contingency plan if only the turf or no fields are clear.
Go Mustangs,
Coach Bobzien
Kick Off Dinner on March 2nd!
Important Message from Coach Bobzien
Congratulations to everyone for making it through the second Trimester!
For tryouts I wanted to send out some information so players and parents understand the coaches approach to tryouts and know the schedule for the week.
First, all players are going to be evaluated by the entire coaching staff the whole week. Players will play with their classmates initially and then start to be split by skill as the week goes on. We will use tryouts to start implementing offensive and defensive strategies to be used in the scrimmages on Saturday. We will use the scrimmages to evaluate players as well. Final teams will be sent out through email on Sunday March 1st.
Players will be evaluated on character, coach-ability, skill, IQ, and athleticism. Again, all coaches will be evaluating all players.
Due to weather the schedule for next week is as follows:
Monday - 5:00 - 6:30 PM - Green Room - Mullen
Tuesday - 3:30 - 5:00 PM - Green Room - Mullen
Wednesday - Friday - 3:30 - 5:30 PM - Fields at Mullen (until you hear otherwise)
For Monday and Tuesday, if you would like to tryout for Varsity it is REQUIRED that you be in attendance. However, I encourage ALL players to attend Monday and Tuesday even if you are not planning to tryout for Varsity. In the coaching staff’s mind, there is no reason why you should not be attending tryouts these days. You are only taking away repetitions and learning opportunities from yourselves.
Starting Wednesday, practice is REQUIRED for ALL players. From that day forward, if a player has three day’s of no call no shows - meaning a player does not show up for a practice or game without contacting a coach directly - they will be dismissed from the program. We take responsibility and commitment seriously and believe that is reflected in setting proper expectations on attendance and holding players accountable accordingly.
Players will have the opportunity to play for the Level 3, Junior Varsity, or Varsity team. We will target 32 players on the Varsity team and approximately 20-25 players each on Level 3 and Junior Varsity. Players will not swing between teams once the season begins. We have approximately 75 - 80 players trying out for the program!!! Our staff could not be more excited for these numbers.
Looking forward to seeing everyone next week!
Sincerely,
Coach Bobzien

Parents -
Bear Sale a Big Success
Thank you all for your support of the Bear sale on Thursday, 2/13 and Friday, 2/14.
The boys worked hard and sold over $1200 of bears. 100 % of those funds will go directly
to The Children’s Hospital Oncology Unit.
We are grateful to all the parents, students and faculty that supported this amazing cause.
We also appreciate all the support that Gloria Dierks and her committee provide to allow us to put on this event at Mullen.
